Internet Safety for Children & Teens – What Parents Should Know

Are you the parent of a child who uses the internet or the parent of a child who will start using the internet soon?  If you are, you should know that the internet is a great way to stay up-to-date on the news, do research for school projects, and communicate with friends, but it can also be very dangerous.  As a parent, it is your responsibility to make sure that your child stays safe online.  Unfortunately, for this to happen you must know your way around a computer and the internet.  Do you?
A child should never know more than a parent does about the internet.  At the very least, you should know about the same.  If you are looking to block adult websites or websites that have offensive language, it will not do you any good if your teenager knows ways to get around the parental controls that you set.  That is why it is important that you know how to use a computer and the internet or learn if you don’t know.

A very interesting article found on this website.This is only the intro. Just read the line that I have bold.  This shows that parents should know about internet.This is generation Y. Parents should expose themselves as to catch up with this new generation We are the generation, right?     Such an interesting topic. I have read this topic. If you notice, in our previous discussion we discuss about the dangers of internet.I think the issue is the same.(A1C)

    1. My parents know English very little. (I have to translate this to BM...Can Google Translate help me here???)
    2.They have never use computer. (My mum is a housewife and my father is a labour)

    1. Yes..my parents too know only little English.

    Girls...I love the discussion and I know now how my kids feel when they are asked to give me their password for fb and twitter. I think as parents not that we want to control you guys but we just want to monitor, just like what is being highlighted in the article "Parents should know more than the kids about computer)

    Girls..wishing me good night means that you are going to sleep now. Holiday? Not really. I had to go to UUM for a course, then I went to Shah Alam for my friend's wedding. Quite hectic.
